Mr. Robison’s Classroom Culture
In any culture, it is important to know the rules of the road. It makes the path to success less bumpy.
Here are some things that we need to follow in our classroom.Make sure to fill out the Google form!
1. Ask permission to get out of your seat
For any reason, if you need to leave your seat, please raise your hand and ask permission. In order for us to minimize distractions (so we can all learn), we need to follow some simple guidelines. If you need to go to the lavatory, sharpen your pencil, etc… just ask.
Note: Please wait until the end of class to throw out any unwanted papers/garbage.2. Raise your hand if you would like to speak
We cannot have people speaking over each other in the classroom because then few will be able to hear or understand what you have to say. Please have the courtesy to wait until you are called upon for your answers. This way we can all get a chance to share our thoughts. Please resist the urge to comment without permission.3. Be prepared and on time
In order to work together as a unit, we need to be ready to learn. That means both being ready for class by being on time and being prepared for class. You should always have your review book, journals, reference tables, pen/pencil, computer, and be attentive and in your seat ready for class before the bell rings. You will be periodically graded on your preparation and aptitude to begin our class properly. Because we have so much to learn, we work from bell to bell in this class. Every moment is very precious! If you are late for class please go quietly to your seat and I will speak to you later in the class. If someone comes into class late, you do not have the right to disrupt the lesson being taught by starting a conversation.4. Have your assignments done on time
In order for us to learn from our assessments, we must try to have them all completed at the same time. It is very important for you to assess your work so you can find out where you were right and, more importantly, where you were wrong and why. If you don’t have your work done on time, you miss this very important opportunity to see where you made mistakes, question the reasoning behind those mistakes, and try to prove yourself correct. This thinking process is very important and cannot be done unless you take the responsibility to follow through and get your assignments done on time. You will be assigned academic detention to make up for what you missed in class while you do your homework and assess your work after school.5. Participate in class
It is important that we focus on the day’s lesson and often you will be asked to work with partners or in small groups. I expect everyone to be respectful, kind, and to put their best effort toward our lesson. Everyone must participate, so please try to stay focused on the tasks that we are doing in class without causing distraction.
What happens when you are not following the above procedures?
Depending on the rule broken, you will be asked to do the following as homework or during class time.On a separate sheet of paper, copy the rule above that you did not abide by.*Write your explanation of why you chose to break that rule.*Write down why you think that I would require that rule in our classroom.
*Write down what you think you could do differently.Detention will be given depending on the results of your explanation and our discussion. If you skip detention, a referral will be written and sent to the office.
Thank you and let's all work together to make this a successful year for everyone!
Please see me if you have any questions.Sincerely,Mr. Robison
